When selecting a memory foam topper for a single bed it pays to think about who is actually going to be using the bed. Most single beds are used by children, teenagers and occasional guests.
If the bed is only to be used by guests then the topper doesn't need to be too hardwearing. A relatively cheap 2 inch memory foam topper will have your guest complimenting you on the comfortable bed that enabled to sleep soundly all night and it won't have cost you very much at all.
The next group who usual sleep in single beds are children and teenagers. Toppers can be good for keeping a mattress going for a lot longer especially after all the things children can do to them.
So should you go for cheap or expensive? An expensive single bed memory foam topper means that it will be able to stand the wear and tear of all that bed bouncing that goes on how ever well behaved your child might be. However if your child is of a very boisterous disposition and prone to destroying things then a cheaper memory foam topper that can be renewed more frequently may end up more cost effective.
Another problem is that children are prone to bed wetting and spilling drinks which can lead to stains and, of course wetness. The easiest way to avoid problems is to use a waterproof cover. If you don’t have a waterproof cover and the worst happens and there's a spillage, take action as soon as possible and spot treat the area and leave it to dry. Don't try to use anything harsh to clean the memory foam as this could cause it to break down. Whatever you do don't try and squeeze it into your washing machine, people do try and the results are invariably disastrous.
Teenagers are slightly less prone to spillages but tend to spend large amounts of time lying in their single bed. Knowing that the roots of adult back pain often lies in the early years, giving your teen good back support with a memory foam topper can be a good investment.
Strange as it may seem not everyone buys a single bed memory foam topper for use on a single bed. Some people use them on double and king sized beds too. If you have one partner suffering from back pains but the other one is sleeping blissfully and comfortably every night, going for a single bed option can make sense if you don't want to be spending too much money.
The single bed topper can then be placed on the double mattress and the person afflicted with back pain can get the spinal support they need. Then both partners can get a good night's sleep without having to buy a large sized bed topper.
